Many people in the US alone deal with horrible pain throughout their body. Most doctors are prescribing Opioids which in many cases lead to an opioid addiction. There have been hundreds of cases where a previous opioid user uses medical cannabis to help with pain, allowing them to break free of their addiction. Illinois offers an OAPP ( Opioid Alternative Pilot Program) in which you obtain a temporary medical cannabis card to wean you off of opioids. The card is valid for 90 days. After the 90 days there is a $10 renewal fee from the state of Illinois. After the 90 days you and your doctor can determine whether to keep you on the OAPP or move to the MCPP (Medical Cannabis Patient Program) which you can obtain a card that will last up to three years.
The state of Illinois has a list of 52 debilitating conditions that are approved for a medical cannabis card. Medical cannabis treats pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and many other physical and mental health issues. Marijuana contains THC which is tetrahydrocannabinol. THC stimulates brain cells to help release dopamine creating a euphoria. Dopamine is a feel-good neurotransmitter. You can find the debilitating condition list here:

January 1, 2020 begun the legalization for recreational marijuana in Illinois. When cannabis became recreational, dispensaries were not ready to carry that much product. Legally, the product will be made available first for medical patients. As time goes on Illinois may experience a drought in cannabis, but medical patients shall not fear as they will always be covered.
Growing your own cannabis has so many benefits. You can make your own strains, experiment with new ideas and it is also very therapeutic. Different strains and different plants can yield certain amounts of cannabis, making it more affordable than going to the dispensary. As a medical cannabis card holder you can cultivate up to 5 plants at a time.
